The environmental improvement works comprised the re-roofing of 1,200 square-metre Carrow House, a Victorian mansion in central Norwich. The building currently houses the Costume and Textile Study Centre but was previously the home of the Colman family.
The repairs involved extensive carpentry as we had to replace a substantial number of massive rafters, joists and wall plates. An extensive temporary roof was installed to protect the valuable costume collection and the attic space was sealed off to prevent the ingress of dirt. Three listed chimneys had to be demolished and rebuilt. The works also saw the like-for-like replacement of Welsh slates and 17.5 tonnes of lead.
