The work comprised the conversion of a grade II listed banking hall, previously occupied by Barclays Bank, into the Norwich Youth Venue to be known as 'Open'.
The banking hall was at the heart of the building, covering half of the ground floor and extending to the full three-storey height. The conversion included a new mezzanine walkway in the hall to match the existing one, both of which are joined by a platform that acts as a first floor viewing gallery with a meeting room below; a flexible space created by using moveable partitions.
This youth project was aimed at encouraging young people, up to the age of 25, to stay off the streets, and allow them the freedom to socialise in a safe and controlled environment. Facilities include a climbing wall, a nightclub, performance area, dance studio, recording studios, café, internet zone and health centre.
