John Youngs started work in late September 2008 for the Norfolk and Norwich Association for the Blind (NNAB) on an activity centre designed especially for people with sight problems.
The contract involved alterations to existing premises and construction of a two-storey extension. The centre includes a new youth club and an equipment and information service. Design features of the centre include curved walls and sensory colours, lack of right-angles and radiators set into the walls to aid danger-free mobility.
The rooms all have sections of textured flooring to enable people with visual impairment to distinguish different areas, whilst the equipment room has a guide strip on the floor to indicate the walkway. The official opening of the activity centre for the NNAB, of which The Queen is patron, was held on Tuesday 4th May 2010.
